{"slug":"drawing-a-pattern","title":"Drawing a pattern","content":"# Drawing a pattern\n\nThe canvas is a vector editor: every point is real, and you can move, add, delete and lock them.\n\n## Moving around\n\n- **Zoom** with the mouse wheel or a pinch.\n- **Pan** by dragging an empty part of the canvas.\n- **Grid** toggles with `G`, the **inspector** with `I` and the **help overlay** with `H`.\n\n## Drawing\n\n- **Freehand** — sketch a rough shape and it is simplified into clean points (Ramer–Douglas–Peucker),\n  so a wobbly stroke becomes a usable pattern.\n- **Edit** — drag any point. A point can be a **corner** or **smooth**; smooth points carry a\n  handle that lets you bend the curve without adding points.\n- **Select** — click points to select, then move or edit them as a group; `Ctrl+A` selects all.\n\n## Points\n\n| Action | How |\n|---|---|\n| Add a point | Click on the curve in **Select** mode |\n| Delete points | Select and press `Delete` |\n| Lock a point | Press `L` — the point keeps its position while you edit the rest |\n| Nudge | Arrow keys or `WASD`; hold `Shift` to move further |\n| Rotate selection | `Q` and `E` |\n| Move selection | Drag any selected point |\n\n## Undo, redo, and saving\n\n- `Ctrl+Z` / `⌘Z` undoes and `Ctrl+Shift+Z` / `⌘⇧Z` redoes. One drag counts as one step.\n- Editing a pattern saves it automatically a moment later, and it appears under **My patterns**.\n- Loading a preset or a saved pattern resets the editor to that shape, keeping its own history so\n  your undo steps follow what you did.\n\n## Sharing and reusing\n\n- Share a saved pattern with a link from **My patterns**.\n- Share a search report with a link from the results panel.\n- Share a pattern to a team so every member can reuse it — see\n  [Teams and sharing](/docs/teams-and-sharing).\n","category":"guide","version":"b110e05b6374","updated_at":"2026-09-16T21:05:35.372352+02:00","is_published":true}
